Trent Boult opens up about dream delivery to KL Rahul
Rajasthan Royals recorded their third win in IPL 2022 on Sunday (April 10) as Lucknow Super Giants went down against them at the Wankhede Stadium. It was a thrilling clash between the two in-form teams which went right down to the wire. After a lot of twists and turns, the Men in Pink eventually crossed the line by three runs, advancing to the top of the team standings.
Meanwhile, Trent Boult was one of the chief architects of RR’s triumph as he delivered a breathtaking opening spell. The left-arm pacer produced an absolute dream delivery as LSG skipper and opener KL Rahul was dismissed for a golden duck off the very first ball of the second innings. It was a class inswinger that came in sharply after hitting the deck and shattered the stumps.
My role with the new ball is to take as many wickets as possible: Trent Boult
While Rahul couldn’t believe what had happened, there was ecstasy in RR camp. Meanwhile, Boult was at his candid best after the game as he revealed it was his fellow New Zealand and RR teammate Jimmy Neesham’s idea to go with that delivery against Rahul first up. The veteran pacer also lauded young fast bowler Kuldeep Sen, who defended 15 runs in the last over against Marcus Stoinis.
“It was a late call at breakfast, and it was Jimmy Neesham’s idea to go with that plan against KL Rahul. I don’t want to give him too much credit (laughs). My role with the new ball is to take as many wickets as possible. It’s a pretty simple game for me at the top and get it to swing. The humidity and the overheads assisted it,” said Neesham after the game.
“Limited English from Kuldeep, he runs in hard though. He executed it well in the end and he is only going to get better. Some quality fast bowling in our side and in the tournament going around. I’ll probably watch my batting before my bowling (laughs),” he added.
Meanwhile, Boult also dismissed number-three batter Krishnappa Gowtham for a golden duck in the first over, sending LSG on the backfoot even further. Besides him, Yuzvendra Chahal scalped a four-wicket haul and was eventually named the Player of the Match.
