Travis Head confident on his Test future after heroics in WTC final

With 76 for three at one stage, Australia were under some pressure on day 1 of the World Test Championship final against India. However, the duo of Steve Smith and Travis Head absolutely changed the complexion of the game after that as Indian bowlers struggled to make any sort of impact. Head particularly was phenomenal on Day 1 of the final. The 29-year-old hit 146* off 156 deliveries and set the tone of the match while his partner Smith is batting on 95*. Courtesy of their incredible partnership, Australia were 327 for three at the end of the day’s play.

Meanwhile, earlier in the year, Head wasn’t considered for selection during Australia’s first Test against India in Nagpur. Speaking about the same and his Test future overall, the cricketer mentioned that getting dropped doesn’t bother him much. The Australia international also added that even if he wants to play all the matches in the future, he is aware that it might not happen.

“It honestly doesn’t faze me. Very privileged to be where I am and do what I do. We’ve got a very strong squad of guys, selection isn’t always going to go your way, it hasn’t in the past, that’s out of my control. All I can do is be as consistent as I can be on the field, (and) off the field enjoy myself,” Head was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

“Yes, I’d love to play every Test but that won’t always be the case. That gives good perspective to moments like this. Hopefully, I don’t get dropped too much in the future but it will definitely happen… it doesn’t give me extra fuel. I know certain decisions haven’t gone my way in the past but I feel like I [have] got a fair bit to contribute to this team and [am] valued within the team. I’ve got the backing of the staff and the captain and the players so it’s nice,” the all-rounder added.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, June 7, Head became the first cricketer ever to score a century in the WTC final. He has played some brilliant cricket so far and will definitely eye for his maiden double-century in the longest format of the game.
