Topping 2020: Five highest wicket-takers in ODI cricket this year

2020 has produced quite a few surprises in International cricket and one such thing was some of the top bowlers of the ODI format not being among wickets. The top list of bowlers for 2020 in ODI cricket does contain some of the top-class bowlers. However, it does give a miss to the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Mitchell Starc despite playing a handy number of games throughout the year.

Here are the top five wicket-takers in the ODI format in 2020:

5. Bilal Khan – 14 wickets:

Oman’s Bilal Khan found a place in top five wicket-takers in the ODI format in 2020 as he bagged 14 wickets across six matches he played. The pacer with a slinging action averaged just 16.21 with the ball and has claimed a 4-wicket haul as well.

4. Pat Cummins – 15 wickets:

Pat Cummins finds a place in the top five ODI bowlers of 2020 in terms of wickets for playing quite a lot of matches. The pacer got to feature in as many as 11 ODIs this year where he chipped in with 15 wickets but with a pretty high bowling average of 39.46 and also strike rate of 41.2. His economy rate was also quite high as it reads 5.74.

3. Josh Hazlewood – 16 wickets:

Josh Hazlewood is another Australian bowler who got benefited since his team played a lot of ODI matches throughout 2020. The speedster bagged 16 wickets across 10 ODI matches while averaging 30.81. However, his economy rate of 5 is quite good considering the number of high-scoring matches he was part of through the year.

2. Alzarri Joseph – 18 wickets:

Alzarri Joseph needed just six games to finish as the 2nd highest wicket-taker in the ODI format of 2020. The West Indies pacer took a total of 18 wickets at an average of only 14.72 and a strike rate of 20. Joseph began the year with back to back 4-fers against Ireland but went wicketless in the 3rd game. Later, in the tour of Sri Lanka, Alzarri picked three wickets apiece in first two games before another 4-wicket haul in the last match.

 1. Adam Zampa – 27 wickets:

Adam Zampa had a great 2020 when it comes to the ODI format as he finished as the leading wicket-taker of the calendar year in ODIs. The leg-spinner took as many as 27 wickets across 13 matches with help of two 4-wicket hauls – one in England and the other in Australia. Zampa took at least one wicket in 12 of the 13 matches played through the year and had a streak of six games where he took at least two wickets.
