Top three most expensive overs in T20I cricket
The T20 format is known to be dominated by batters as we see the ball flying around more often than not. With an innings lasting for just 20 overs, batters have the license to attack bowlers from the outset without the fear of getting out. The scoring rate gets even enhanced when the action moves towards the crunch overs. Fours and sixes are smashed for fun in this phase of the game.
Sometimes, bowlers even tend to leak 25-30 runs in an over with batsmen being on song in the death overs. However, taking bowlers for cleaners even in this format isn’t that easy, with many variations and different deliveries coming into the picture. Nevertheless, several batters have defied all these challenges and made a mark in T20Is.
Here, here are 3 Instances of the most runs scored in an over in T20I cricket
Ross Taylor – 34 vs India in 2020
Shivam Dube was on the receiving end of Tim Seifert and Ross Taylor’s carnage during the fifth T20I of India’s 2020 tour of New Zealand. The right-arm pacer came out to bowl in the 10th over and Kiwi batters welcomed him in a thrilling manner. While Seifert smashed two sixes and a four in that over, Taylor collected two sixes. However, Dube’s poor outing didn’t hurt India much as the Men in Blue won the game by seven runs.
Yuvraj Singh – 36 vs England in 2007
Now, who can forget how Yuvraj Singh smashed Stuart Broad in the 2007 T20 World Cup clash between England and India? A verbal altercation with English all-rounder Andrew Flintoff pumped Yuvraj up and what followed was history in Durban. The southpaw slammed Stuart Broad for six sixes in the 18th over of the innings to bolster India’s total. In the process, the dasher also brought up his 50 off 12 balls. Riding on his prowess, India won the contest by 18 runs.
Kieron Pollard – 36 vs Sri Lanka in 2021
It was the first T20I of Sri Lanka’s 2021 tour of the West Indies, and Kieron Pollard was on a roll. Chasing 132 runs in Antigua, the Caribbean side couldn’t get off to a stellar start with the top order being rattled. Off-spinner Akila Dananjaya was making the ball talk and even took the hat-trick. However, Pollard spoiled his figures by smashing him for six sixes in the sixth over. His brilliance took West Indies to a four-wicket win.
