Top 5 wicket-takers for India in T20 cricket
Getting wickets in Twenty20 cricket may not be as simple as one might think, especially when hitters are constantly attempting to take on the bowlers. In this setup, bowlers can get lucky when batters miss a huge shot or make a shot selection blunder. However, in order to rack up hundreds of wickets, a bowler must create a niche. It might be a change in tempo, or even the bowling style, that causes the hitters to feel uneasy.
Here are the top five wicket-takers for India in T20 cricket
Jasprit Bumrah- 243
Bumrah has been one of India’s finest bowlers across all formats of the game. His performance in the T20 format improved with his time at the Mumbai Indians camp. He has trained under some of the best coaches and has been a prolific bowler in the shortest format of the game. His best figures in this format came against the Delhi Capitals in 2020, as he led his team to a victory in the qualifiers and registered the magical figures of 4-1-14-4.
Amit Mishra- 262
Mishra’s career took a brief pause when he went unsold during the IPL 2022 auction, after representing Delhi Capitals for the past few years. In the IPL format, he is the third-highest wicket-taker with 167 wickets in his bag. The last time he played a T20 match was a year ago, in April 2021. His last stint in the format was Delhi’s game against RCB.
Yuzvendra Chahal- 265
Chahal is on the verge of overtaking Chawla and Ashwin to become the highest wicket-taker for the country in the shortest format of the game. Chahal is the leading wicket-taker in the ongoing IPL 2022 with 18 wickets from eight games. While both Chahal and Ashwin represent the Rajasthan Royals as the spin-duo, the former has been terrific with the ball this year, and will soon take the No. 1 spot.
Piyush Chawla- 270
Before Ashwin, Chawla was the highest wicket-taker for India last year. He made his debut for MI while playing against the Sunrisers Hyderabad when he snared Mohammad Nabi’s wicket to achieve the feat. It was his 263rd wicket as he overtook Amit Mishra and while representing Gujarat in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2021, he took his tally to 270.
Ravichandran Ashwin- 271
On Tuesday, April 26, Ravi Ashwin overtook Piyush Chawla to become India’s leading wicket-taker in the T20 format of the game. Playing for the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2022, Ashwin scalped three wickets in the game against the Royal Challengers Bangalore and became the highest wicket-taker for India with a total of 271 picks in his bag.
