Indian team played their 1000th ODI on February 6th against West Indies at Ahmedabad and became the first side in the history of ODIs to reach the 1000 ODIs landmark. The first-ever ODI was played on January 5, 1971, between Australia and England, and since then the format gained popularity with the first-ever ODI World Cup taking place four years late in the year 1975.

1. India (1000)
During the first ODI on February 6th, 2022 against West Indies at Ahmedabad, the Indian team became the first-ever side to contest in a 1000th ODI. India played its first-ever ODI on July 13 in 1974 when they faced England. Out of 1000 ODIs, the Asian giants have won 519 matches, lost 431, nine games were tied and 41 clashes had no result. Along with West Indies, the men in blue are the joint-second successful side for clinching the ODI WC most number of times which is twice.
2. Australia (958)
The most successful team in the ODI history, Australia, has participated in 958 ODIs in which they have won 581 times. They have lost 334 ODIs with nine matches ending in a tie and 34 games had no result. They played their first match against England on January 5, 1971, which also happened to be the first ODI match in history. Australia has the most number of WC titles as the team from down under has won record five trophies. Aussies have also won the Champions Trophy twice in 2006 and 2009.
3. Pakistan (936)
Pakistan has played 936 ODIs till now and won 490. They have lost 417 ODIs with nine games ended up in a tie and 20 finished with no result. Pakistan played their first match on February 11, 1973, when they faced New Zealand. In 1992, they lifted the WC for the first time. After 25 years, they won another 50-overs tournament in the form of the Champions Trophy in 2017.
4. Sri Lanka (870)
Sri Lanka has been part of 870 ODIs, winning 395 losing 432, and five ODIs were tied. 38 of Sri Lanka’s matches ended in no result. Their first ODI came in the World Cup in 1975 when they faced West Indies. In 1996, they tasted glory when they clinched their maiden WC title. In 2002, they were joint Champions Trophy winners with India and in 2007 and 2011 the Lankan Lions ended up as runners-up in the ODI World Cup.
5. West Indies (835)
West Indies has played 835 games and won 406 ODIs. 389 times they have lost the match with ten clashes finished in a tie and 30 in no result. Their first match came against England on September 5, 1973, as they won the first two World Cups held in 1975 and 1979. Since then, they have won only one major ODI trophy when they defeated England in the Champions Trophy in 2004.
