Top 5 Most expensive overs in the history of IPL
A bowler always looks to bowl tightly and with supreme control in the T20 format. Bowling four good overs is the utmost priority for a bowler who looks to contain the runs in those 24 deliveries. No bowler likes to go for runs in this format, especially where just one good over can decide the fate of the match. In the Indian Premier League (IPL), some have gone for plenty in a single over to script their names into record books.
Let’s take a look at the top 5 most expensive overs in IPL history:
5.Parwinder Awana (33)
Parwinder Awana was at the receiving end against Suresh Raina in Qualifier 2 match in 2014. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter Raina destroyed Awana for 33 runs against Punjab Kings (PBKS). The first four balls went for two sixes and two fours with Awana bowling a no-ball on the fifth ball which also cost him four runs. Raina smashed the free-hit and the sixth delivery for a boundary to complete 33 runs over in a run-chase of 227.
4.Ravi Bopara (33)
Ravi Bopara has bowled the fourth-most expensive over in IPL history. The over started and ended with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter Manoj Tiwary taking a single on each delivery. But in between the Universe Boss Chris Gayle slammed Ravi Bopara for four huge maximums. Playing for PBKS, Ravi Bopara also conceded seven extras in the 13th over of the innings in Kolkata in 2010.
3.Daniel Sams (35)
Daniel Sams suffered the wrath of Pat Cummins, as he went for 35 runs in Pune in 2022. Cummins tonked Sams for three sixes and a four in the first four balls. The fifth ball was a no-ball as Cummins took two runs with the free-hit ball going for a four. He then finished off the chase with a six on the final ball to reach the target of 162 for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) against Mumbai Indians (MI).
2.Harshal Patel (37)
Purple cap winner in the 2021 edition, Harshal Patel suffered an unwanted record against CSK in that season. The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) pacer was taken to the cleaners by Ravindra Jadeja as he clobbered Harshal for 37 runs. Jadeja hammered two sixes on the first two balls with the third one also going for a six on a no-ball. The free-hit went for a six as the all-rounder then scored two, six, and a four on the final deliveries to set a new record in the IPL.
1.Prasanth Parameswaran (37)
Chris Gayle smoked Prasanth Parameswara for 37 runs in Bangalore in 2011. Parameswaran, who was playing for the now-defunct side Kochi Tuskers Kerala (KTK), leaked two sixes in the first two balls with the second one being a no-ball. Gayle then blasted two fours and two gigantic sixes before rounding off the over with a four to register Prasanth’s name in an unwanted record book.
