Top 5 international records set by women cricketers
Women’s Cricket has developed over the years, especially after the 2017 World Cup. The sport has mostly been male-dominated, but things have started to change in the last few years or so. The International Cricket Council (ICC) is also trying its best to help enrich women cricketers and their sport to a significant extent.
Amidst the growth of women’s cricket, some of their players have created some incredible records. A number of women players have shown that they can perform on the big stage without letting the pressure get to them. Some of the records may even take plenty of time to get broken.
Let’s take a look at the top 5 international records set by women cricketers:-
Anya Shrubsole’s 41 wickets in T20 World Cups
Anya Shrubsole’s effectiveness came to the fore when she decimated the Indian batting line-up in the 2017 Women’s World Cup final. She was mightily vicious even in this year’s T20 World Cup in Australia. In four matches, the 28-year-old Englishwoman churned out eight wickets with a couple of three-wicket hauls.
Overall, in the T20 mega event, she has as many as 41 wickets from 27 encounters at an excellent economy of 5.32. The numbers also transcend men’s cricket where Shahid Afridi is the leading wicket-taker with 39 scalps. Bearing in mind her age, she is expected to add on to the tally.
Amelia Kerr’s 232* against Ireland, 2018
Amelia Kerr is one of the brightest talents New Zealand cricket has at the present point in time. In 32 ODIs and as many T20Is, she has 82 wickets at an economy of 5.68. Though she is in the national team more for her bowling, it’s her batting that has grabbed the headlines as well.
She has 497 runs in ODIs, 232 of them came in a single match in June 2018 while opening the batting. Back then, Kerr was a 17-year-old and she smashed those many runs against Ireland Women at the Castle Avenue in Dublin. She also holds the record for the highest individual score in ODIs.
Alyssa Healy’s fastest fifty in a global tournament final
The 2020 Women’s T20 World Cup final was all about Australia and Alyssa Healy. The Aussie opener was unstoppable that day as she smashed her way to a 39-ball 75 with the help of seven fours and five sixes. Though she got out in the 12th over to Poonam Yadav, she had already set the platform.
She got to her half-century off 30 balls and it remains the fastest in the final of any world event. Back in 2017, Hardik Pandya smashed his fifty off 32 balls during the Champions Trophy final against Pakistan. However, Healy with her class and panache has made the record her very own.
Harmanpreet Kaur’s 171* against Australia, 2017
The 2017 Women’s World Cup semi-final would be remembered for Harmanpreet Kaur’s brilliance. The middle-order batsman hammered 171 runs off 115 balls with the help of 20 fours and seven sixes. She did a chunk of the work as India could only churn out 281 for four in their 42 overs.
The Aussies lost the game by 36 runs after being bowled out for 245 in 40.1 overs. En route the knock, she broke Karen Rolten’s record (107*) of the highest ever individual score in the knockout of a women’s World Cup match. Harmanpreet remains a brute force for the opposition in cricket.
Ellyse Perry’s 36 matches in T20 World Cups
Ellyse Perry has arguably been the greatest all-rounder women’s cricket has been a witness to. At the age of 29, she already has nearly 5,000 runs and 300 wickets to her name. She has performed on the big stage as well, having played 36 games in the Women’s T20 World Cup since her debut in 2009.
In these matches, Perry has scored 311 runs and picked up 37 wickets. In the previous edition of the mega event, she couldn’t play the last two games due to injury but was there to support her team vociferously. Nobody has played more games than her in T20 World Cups, not even in men’s cricket.
