Eleven editions of Women’s World Cups have taken place since its inception way back 49 years ago in the year 1973. There have been some brilliant batting performances from the females in the global event in these years. The marquee tournament has witnessed some of the breathtaking innings played by women.

5. Suzie Bates (168)

In the 2009 edition which was held in Australia, New Zealand’s experienced all-rounder Suzie Bates wreaked havoc by playing an innings of 168 runs off just 105 deliveries in the Super Six clash against Pakistan in Sydney. NZ batted first and Bates struck 19 fours and six sixes with a staggering strike rate of 160.00. Haidee Tiffin also smashed a ton as NZ posted 373/7 and won the match by record 223 runs.

4. Stafanie Taylor (171) and Harmanpreet Kaur (171*)

In 2013 WC, West Indies all-rounder Stafanie Taylor destroyed Sri Lanka’s bowling attack by scoring 171 runs off 137 balls while opening the batting. WI batted first in the group match in Mumbai and scored 368/8 thanks to Taylor’s innings which included 18 fours and two sixes as they beat Sri Lanka by 209 runs.

India’s Harmanpreet Kaur smashed 171* in 115 balls with 20 fours and seven sixes against Australia in Derby in the 2017 WC. India batted first and Kaur came in at no. four and scored her runs with a strike rate of 148.69 as India posted 281/4 in 42 overs and won the clash by 36 runs.

3. Charlotte Edwards (173*)

Former England batter Charlotte Edwards slammed unbeaten 173 off 155 deliveries against Ireland women in Pune in the 1997 edition. England batted first and Edwards who opened the innings struck 19 fours to help England in posting 324/3 in 50 overs. The English side won the match by 208 runs and Charlotte was declared as the Player of the Match.

2. Chamari Athapaththu (178*)

In the last edition in 2017, Sri Lanka’s Chamari Athapaththu went berserk when she scored 178* off 143 balls batting at no. three against Australia in Bristol. Her side batted first and nobody could really get going as Sri Lanka posted 257/9 thanks to her innings which included 22 fours and six maximums. Sri Lanka lost the game by eight wickets.

1. Belinda Clark (229*)

Former Australia captain Belinda Clark scored unbeaten 229, the only double-century in Women’s WC history and second overall, against Denmark women in Mumbai in 1997 WC. Clark won the toss and opted to bat first. She opened the batting and carried her bat till the 50th over after playing 155 deliveries with 22 fours and a strike rate of 147.74. Australia scored a mammoth 412/3 and won the clash by 363 runs.
