Top 3 fastest centuries in Test cricket
Test cricket is considered the toughest format in the international arena as it requires a lot of grit and patience. However, there have been great players who played Test cricket as if they are playing a white-ball game. On that note, let us look at the top three fastest centuries in Test cricket.
3. Adam Gilchrist (57 balls)
One of the most destructive wicketkeeper-batters, Adam Gilchrist comes at the number three spot on the list. The left-handed batter scored his century from 57 deliveries against England at Perth in the 2007 Ashes series. It must be noted that it was his last innings in his career as he remained unbeaten on 102 from 59 balls and stroked 12 fours and four sixes.
2. Sir Viv Richards and Misbah-ul-Haq (56 balls)
One of the legends of the game Sir Viv Richards completely bamboozled the England bowling attack during an encounter at Antigua in 1986. Richards stroked his hundred in just 56 balls as he remained unbeaten on 110 runs from 58 balls and stroked seven fours and the same number of sixes.
Tied with Richards on the second spot, the former Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq took everyone by surprise during the second Test of the 2014 series against the mighty Australia. The right-handed batter played an aggressive knock and completed his hundred in just 56 balls. He remained not out on 101 and hit 11 fours and five sixes.
1. Brendon McCullum (54 balls)
Known for his aggressive batting, former New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum was at his absolute best during a Test match against Australia. The right-handed batter took just 54 balls to get to his hundred and with that, he bettered Sir Viv and Misbah’s record for the fastest Test ton by stwo balls. McCullum stroked 145 runs in just 79 deliveries as he smashed 21 fours and six sixes.
