TNPL 2021 to commence from 4th June in a bio secure environment
Amidst the raging coronavirus pandemic, the 2021 edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) will take place from 4th June 2021. News has come in that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has provided permission to conduct the TNPL in a safe bio-secure environment.
The secretary of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA), RS Ramasaamy confirmed that the BCCI has granted approval for conducting the TNPL. Ramasaamy announced that the TNCA is glad that the tournament has received the nod from the BCCI.
He further added that after getting the necessary approval from the Tamil Nadu Government, the tournament will commence on 4th June 2021 at Tirunelveli and the summit clash will be played on 4th July in the city of Salem.
“TNCA is glad to announce that BCCI has approved the TNPL 2021 tournament. After getting necessary approvals from the Government of Tamil Nadu, the tournament will start on 4th June at Tirunelveli and the finals will be played on 4th July at Salem,” said Ramasaamy as quoted by the Times of India.

The TNCA secretary further added that the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) will follow all the standard operating procedures of the bubble, and frequent testing of the players will also be conducted. Ramasaamy concluded by stating that all the quarantine rules that are being followed by the BCCI for the international matches, domestic matches, and the IPL will be followed here.
“TNCA will follow strict standard operating measures of bio bubble with frequent testing and quarantine rules as is being done for BCCI domestic matches, international matches, and with IPL,” concluded Ramasaamy.
The TNPL did not take place in 2020. During the 2019 edition of the TNPL, The Chepauk Super Gilles emerged as the champions, beating the Dindigul Dragons in the summit clash by 12 runs. Ganeshan Periyaswamy was awarded the Player of the Match award for scalping 5 wickets in the 4 overs that he bowled and helped the Chepauk Super Gilles lift the trophy.
The 2021 edition of the TNPL will be the 5th edition of the league and will feature 8 teams. The opening match of the tournament will be played between Tiruppur Tamizhans and Dindigul Dragons.
