Tilak Varma has been brilliant, has hunger to perform: Rohit Sharma
The latest match of IPL 2022 saw the two most successful teams of the league- Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians taking on each other with MI reigning superior. After CSK’s horrible batting show, which saw them getting wrapped on just 97 runs, Mumbai defeated them by five wickets despite having a shaky start. Tilak Varma was crucial once again in the middle after scoring 34* runs when MI lost quick four wickets.
Varma’s innings alongside Hrithik Shokeen steadied the ship for five-time champions and skipper Rohit Sharma lauded the 19-year-old for the same. Rohit added that Varma has been brilliant for them just in his debut season and keeping that calm head is not easy.
The MI skipper believed that the youngster will be an all-format player for India soon given his techniques and temperament. It is to be noted that Varma is the highest run-getter for Mumbai this season with 368 runs in 12 innings, averaging 40.89.
“Tilak has been brilliant, playing for the first year, having such a calm head is never easy. I feel he’s going to be an all-format player for India pretty soon. He’s got the technique and temperament. And there’s hunger as well,” said Rohit Sharma while speaking to Star Sports.
There were tense moments in the middle: Rohit Sharma
Rohit further talked about how the pitch behaved in the game against CSK and that losing quick wickets at the start did give them some stress. He further added how home advantage helped his side to get over the finishing line easily with bowlers also doing their part well.
“Looking at how the pitch was playing and to lose wickets upfront, there were tense moments in the middle. It was just about keeping calm and getting the job done. We were a little calm and got the job done in the end. We have played a lot of cricket here. We’ve had pitches like this. It’s nice to get bowlers into the game as well at times. It’s been batting-friendly all over, it was good to see bounce and swing from both sides which was good to watch,” Rohit added.
