Three players Lucknow franchise might pick in the draft
Lucknow is all set to make its debut in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League. It is one of the two teams, along with Ahmedabad, which have been finalised for the upcoming edition. Sanjiv Goenka’s RPSG Group bought the team last month at a staggering price of INR 7,090 crore. The teams were unveiled after the 2021 IPL, which ended on October 15 in Dubai.
As far as Lucknow is concerned, it will go through a players draft where it will have to pick three players- two Indians and one foreigner. The deadline to make their picks is December 25. However, it could be extended since the BCCI is yet to issue a letter of intent to the Ahmedabad team. It’s a chance for Lucknow to rope in a few stalwarts, who could make a big impact for them in the series.
Here are 3 players Lucknow might pick in the drafts
Kagiso Rabada
Kagiso Rabada has been a genuine wicket-taker for Delhi Capitals over the last four seasons. While in the first two seasons he gave glimpses of his potential, the pacer came into his own in the 2020 and 2021 editions of the IPL. In 50 matches, the fast bowler has picked up 76 wickets at an economy rate of 8.21. If Lucknow go on to pick him, there’s very little doubt on him leading their bowling attack.
KL Rahul
KL Rahul made his IPL debut way back in 2013, but it’s only in the last four seasons that he has punched above his weight. After representing Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore, joining the Punjab Kings chased his fortunes completely. He’s currently at the peak of his powers as far as T20 cricket is concerned and Lucknow can be benefited heavily if they pick him.
Hardik Pandya
Hardik Pandya was a brute force for the Mumbai Indians as he stepped up with both bat and ball. The right-hander has the ability to clear the biggest boundaries with relative ease. Pandya is definitely not the worst when it comes to medium-pace bowling. Although he’s jostling for form and has had issues with his bowling, Lucknow can bank on him to come good in the T20 tournament.
