Three players India should groom as their next captain
Rohit Sharma was recently appointed the full-time Test captain and the upcoming home series against Sri Lanka will be his first assignment. He has had a terrific run as a leader so far with winning the three T20Is against New Zealand and continuing the streak against West Indies as well. However, Rohit is 34 now and his fitness concerns might be a big factor moving forward. Let us look at 3 players India should groom for captaincy after Rohit Sharma.
KL Rahul:
KL Rahul was named the vice-captain of the Indian side after Rohit was appointed the full-time captain and the Karnataka lad has been doing extremely well in all the formats. His ability to win games on his own is an added luxury and he is still a work in progress in terms of captaincy. However, Rahul deserves to be the next captain for India and will be groomed in meantime as well.
Rishabh Pant:
In the absence of Rahul and Bumrah, the team management named Pant as the vice-captain for the West Indies series and he is expected to be the future Indian captain with a lot of cricket left in him. The wicketkeeper has grown into an integral part of all the formats for India and is at the peak of his powers. He has done well as a captain for the Delhi Capitals and has all the goods needed to be the perfect choice for India’s long-term captaincy.
Jasprit Bumrah:
Jasprit Bumrah is one of the best fast bowlers going around in the world at the moment and he has been a consistent performer for India in all formats. The 28-year-old has an excellent cricketing mind and is seen as a captaincy option in the near future. He has been named as the vice-captain for the upcoming home series against Sri Lanka and will soon don the captaincy hat as well.
