Three highest totals in Women’s World Cup
The Women’s World Cup 2022 is undergoing in full swing. The high-billing tournament has witnessed a host of thrilling encounters over the last decades and has shown that the women’s game is by no means inferior to their male counterparts. Like the men’s World Cup, the women’s editions have also recorded many high-scoring fixtures. On that note, here’s a look at the top three of those:
3. England 376/2 against Pakistan (1997 ICC Women’s World Cup)
England also hold the record of third-highest total in the tournament against the same opposition. Pakistan after winning the toss asked England to bat first. With healthy contributions from opener Janette Brittin 138 off 124 balls and number three Barbara Daniels 142 off 103 balls, the Three Lions went on to score 376 after losing just two wickets in the process in their allotted 50 overs quota. In reply, Pakistan could only make 146/3 as England went on to win the match by 230 runs.
2. England 377/7 vs Pakistan (2017 ICC Women’s World Cup)
The England women’s cricket team are second on the list for highest team score in the Women’s World Cup courtesy their 377/7 against Pakistan in the 2017 ICC Women’s World Cup. After being invited to bat first, England lost both their openers at a score of 42 by the tenth over of the match.
However, skipper Heather Knight (106 off 109) and Natalie Sciver (137 off just 92) stitched a mammoth partnership of 213 before contributions from Danielle Wyatt and Fran Wilson lower down the order helped England reach the second highest total of ICC Women’s World Cup. England eventually went on to win the match by 107 runs through DLS method in a rain barred match.
1. Australia 412/3 against Denmark (1997 ICC Women’s World Cup)
Team Australia, a record six-time winners of the ICC Women’s World Cup, registered the highest team score in their Group A encounter against Denmark in the 1997 ICC Women’s World Cup.
Winning the toss, Australia decided to bat first as the Aussies posted a mammoth total of 412 runs losing just three wickets in the process in their allotted 50 overs as Belinda Clark scored an unbeaten 229 runs off just 155 balls, hitting 22 boundaries in the process.
There were contributions from other top-order batters as well as Clarke’s fellow opener Lisa Keightley scored a well-made 60 off 70. However, the flow of runs did not stop as Karen Rolton came all guns blazing scoring a quickfire 64 using just 52 balls and hitting seven boundaries as well. The Aussies eventually won the match by 363 runs after bowling out Denmark for 49 in 25.5 overs.
