These Indian Cricketers hogged the headlines for off the field reasons in 2020

Kohli

The year 2020 has changed our lives in innumerable ways. And for the larger part of the year, the sporting industry took the beating too. Ever since the first quarter of the year, many series either got postponed or cancelled, before the action resumed in the last few months. While the action on the field was on a halt, there was no scarcity of action off it. Let us, on that note, take a look at five such players who hogged headlines off the field –

Hardik Pandya

The India star all-rounder Hardik Pandya manages to stay equally relevant on and off the field. Pandya announced his engagement to Serbian actress Natasa Stankovic on New Year’s Day from a ferry ride in Dubai. The news of his engagement to the Bollywood actress was not just a surprise for his fans, but also his family. In July, he became a father with his partner giving birth to a baby boy.

MS Dhoni

The entire cricketing world was taken by storm on 15th August this year as MS Dhoni took social media to announce his retirement from international cricket. His Instagram post pushed the entire cricketing fraternity into gloom and despite his decision being somewhat expected, it left all his fans in a spell of shock. Posting a short video on Instagram, the Indian cricketer captioned it as “Thanks a lot for ur love and support throughout. From 1929 hrs consider me as Retired”

Rohit Sharma

The Indian opener has been in the news ever since the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Picking up a hamstring injury during the tournament, the Mumbaikar had to miss some games for his franchise. During the same time, the squads for India’s ongoing tour of Australia were announced and Rohit’s missing name caught everyone by surprise. He eventually led Mumbai Indians to their fifth title and is now set to play the third Test against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Virat Kohli

The Indian skipper is renowned for his on-field antics, however, the year 2020 will be remembered more for the off-field frenzy he created. In August this year, Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma had announced that they are expecting their first child. The announcement made via social media left all his fans excited, and truckloads of greetings and wishes followed. Twitter India even revealed that Kohli’s tweet was the Most Liked Tweet in India for the year 2020.
