These 3 players were selected despite poor IPL

On Sunday (May 22), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) named India’s lineup for the forthcoming five-match T20I home series against South Africa which is set to begin on June 9. Many players from the ongoing IPL 2022 were named among the 17-member team. The tournament’s expansion to ten teams provided opportunities for many outstanding players to demonstrate their abilities.

The selectors opted to rest some of the senior players of the team and gave an opportunity to the emerging players of the IPL 2022 to represent their country. While KL Rahul has been appointed captain, with Rishabh Pant designated vice-captain, there were a few players who got an opportunity even after a disappointing run at the IPL this season.

Here are 3 Players who were lucky to get a chance in India’s T20I squad-

1. Venkatesh Iyer

The Kolkata Knight Riders player was one of the major let-downs of the IPL 2022 season. He managed to score mere 182 runs in 12 innings, averaging 16.55. He was one of the finest performers last season and received his maiden call-up for his impressive run with the bat in the second half of IPL 2021. His performance against West Indies was impressive, which has made him continue his run at the Indian camp.

2. Axar Patel

The Delhi Capitals bowler could not stand up to the expectations this season. He managed to scalp only six wickets in the 13 matches that he played, at an economy of 7.47 and a poor average of 53.50. Patel has received ample praises while performing for the Indian side, but somehow the 2022 season of the IPL did not work out for him. There were spinners who had a better run than Patel this season, but the Gujarati spinner got lucky.

3. Ruturaj Gaikwad

There were big hopes and high expectations from the CSK opening batter, who won the Orange Cap last year and also bagged the Emerging player of the year award. But this year things did not work for him, and he was dismissed for back-to-back low totals in the first half of the IPL 2022. His performance for India last year was not satisfactory either. There were a few good knocks from him this year, and maybe that showed him his way back to the Indian side.
