The Hundred: Top run-getters in 2022 edition
Trent Rockets beat Manchester Originals in the final of The Hundred Men 2022 tournament at Lord’s on last Saturday (September 3). Both the teams finished the 2021 edition in the bottom half of the league table but were consistent with the results with some individual performances from the players this year.
Here are the top three run-getters at The Hundred Men 2022:
- Adam Lyth (299 Runs, Northern Superchargers)
The veteran English batter was consistent for Northern Superchargers from the opening clash against Manchester Originals with 51 runs off just 30 balls knock. He continued that momentum throughout the tournament and scored 299 runs in eight matches at an average of 37.37 and an impressive strike rate of 175.88.
The 34-year-old left-handed batter smashed three fifties with his 79-run off 33 balls knock against Oval Invincibles being the highest score. But that memorable knock resulted in a defeat for the Superchargers. He finished the season as the leading run-scorer for his team with no other players crossing the 200-run mark.
- Phil Salt (353 Runs, Manchester Originals)
The 26-year-old opening batter played a crucial role in the Originals’ run to the finals this season. He scored 353 runs in ten matches at an average of 39.22 and a strike rate of 152.81. Salt was tipped to make a big impact this season after impressive performances for England in the ODI series against the Netherlands in June.
Salt started this edition with just one run in the opening clash against the Superchargers but went on to score 30-plus knocks in the next six matches. He smashed his highest score of 70* against the champions Trent Rockets in the third match and scored the fifties against Pheonix and Superchargers as well. He is now rewarded with a national team call-up for the upcoming Pakistan tour and also named in the squad for the 2022 T20 World Cup.
- David Malan (377 Runs, Trent Rockets)
The experienced batter remains the only English player ranked in the ICC T20I batters’ chart and he continues to prove his ability to score consistently in the shortest format of the game. Malan scored the highest 377 runs in just nine matches at an average of 53.85 and a strike rate of 166.81.
Malan, 35, started this season with just 15 runs from the opening two matches but quickly returned to form with two big fifties in the next two matches. He smashed unbeaten 88 runs off 49 balls against the Superchargers and unbeaten 98 runs off just 44 balls against the Originals. He missed on registering two centuries by a narrow margin but scored the most four fifties and smashed joint-most 20 sixes in the Hundred Men 2022 season.
