The Extras – Weekly round-up of cricket’s major happenings
The world is still recovering from the severe impact of the coronavirus pandemic. While some countries are getting back to their feet, others are still fighting to drive the virus away. The prospect of live cricket is still a few weeks away and cricketers are slowly getting back to their training routine. The week gone by was once again full of cricketers expressing their opinions and sharing their memories on social media. Here are the most popular bits.
Jofradamus continues to impress
The city of Mumbai has been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic. The numbers are growing rapidly with many areas being containment zones. In addition to the existing woes, the threat of ‘Nisarga’ cyclone loomed over the city. Heavy rain and 90-100 kmph winds were predicted to hit Mumbai. While none of the Mumbaikars had imagined this trouble, England bowler Jofra Archer already had a tweet for it. Dubbed as “Jofradamus”, he has been up to the task since last year.

Chawla gets into big-hitting mode
MS Dhoni is known to bring about the best from his cricketers. His astute cricketing sense has helped India in reaching new heights. One of Chennai Super Kings’ bowlers, Piyush Chawla revealed an interesting incident from practice nets. While Chawla was practising in the nets, Dhoni egged him go for big shots. “Single toh tu le lega par marna padega,” Dhoni said to Chawla. Here’s the clip.
Cricketers express disgust after the death of a pregnant elephant
A tragic case of animal abuse emerged this week from Kerala where a pregnant elephant in Kerala lost its life while standing in the river. Some villagers allegedly fed the elephant with a pineapple filled with firecrackers. This news prompted many cricketers to come forward and condemn the act.

We are savages. Are we not learning ? To hear what happened to the elephant in Kerala was heartbreaking. No animal deserves to be treated with cruelty.
