The Extras – Weekly Round-Up Of Cricket’s Major Happenings
The Coronavirus pandemic that has spread across the globe continues to put all sporting activities to a grinding halt. Even cricket hasn’t been spared with matches and tournaments being cancelled or postponed at a rapid rate. Like most of the world, cricketers have been stuck at home, which has allowed us to see a different side to their personality away from the heat of the action. Many keep active on social media to update their fans on a regular basis. In this week’s Extras, we take a look at some of the latest happenings in the cricketing world:
Ricky Ponting turns entrepreneur
Really excited to finally launch our new business Ponting Wines. It’s been an honour for Rianna and I to work with one of Australia’s best wine makers, Ben Riggs.
We’re incredibly proud of the range, use code PONTING15 for a special 15% launch discount: https://t.co/tVYc34VEt2 pic.twitter.com/e9PThZv5Jm

Former Australia World Cup-winning captain Ricky Ponting recently launched his new business along with wife Rianna. Ponting collaborated with Ben Giggs, one of Australia’s finest winemakers to launch ‘Ponting Wines’. Pictured above is a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon wine named ‘Close of Play’, dressed in typical Australian baggy green colours with a digital autograph of the cricketer.
Steve Smith shares batting tips
What’s better than a Steve Smith masterclass? The Australian batsman took to his Instagram page to start a series of video tutorials for young and upcoming batsmen. In the video, he is seen talking about the first authentic swing coming out of the bat. Smith is notoriously known to practice shadow batting wherever and whenever he gets a chance. His teammates also joke about it quite often, saying he even shadow bats in his sleep and probably in the shower.

For MS Dhoni fans, this video of him and his daughter Ziva playing fetch with one of their pet dogs was a welcome surprise. The former Indian skipper has been out of action ever since India’s devastating loss at the 2019 World Cup semi-final. Every now and then, Dhoni’s fans are eager to get a glimpse of their ‘thala’. Chennai Super Kings’ official account on Twitter shared this fun video where Dhoni is seen relaxing with his family at his Ranchi farmhouse.
