‘Thank you everyone for all the love and concern’: Kapil Dev delivers positive news on his health
Delivering good news on his health, India’s first-ever World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev has said he is “well on the road to recovery”. On Friday (October 23), the cricket legend was hospitalized in Delhi’s Fortis Escorts Hospital after he complained of chest pain. The 61-year old also had to undergo an angioplasty after suffering the heart attack.
The hospital later released a statement and confirmed that Kapil Dev’s condition was stable and he would be discharged in a couple of days. The hospital also confirmed that the former cricketer underwent successful surgery. Angioplasty is a procedure to open blocked arteries and restore normal blood flow to the heart.
“Former Indian Cricket captain Mr. Kapil Dev, Age 62 years, came to Fortis Escorts Heart Institute (Okhla Road) emergency department at 1:00 am on 23rd October with a complaint of chest pain. He was evaluated and an emergency coronary Angioplasty was performed by Dr. Atul Mathur, Director of Cardiology Department, in the middle of night. Currently, he is admitted in ICU and under close supervision of Dr. Atul Mathur and his team. Mr. Kapil Dev is stable now and he is expected to get discharged in a couple of days,” read the statement.
Soon after the news became public, the entire cricketing fraternity wished Kapil Dev for a speedy recovery. Present and former cricketers and fans took to social media to show solidarity with the former India captain and coach. Overwhelmed by the support and good wishes, Kapil Dev later took to Instagram to express gratitude for the concern and support.

Kapil Dev is one of the greatest all-rounders in the history of the game and one of the most decorated players in Indian cricket. He is the only player to claim over 400 wickets and score more than 5000 runs in Tests. His finest moment came in 1983 when he led India to the World Cup triumph against all the odds.
He played 131 Tests and 225 ODIs in a career that spanned for 16 years. The former cricketer scored 5248 Test runs and claimed 434 wickets. In ODIs, he made 3783 runs and took 253 wickets.
