Test Series against India will determine where we are: Jack Leach

Fans all around the world must gear up to witness some exciting contest in red-ball cricket as India and England are set to lock horns in a five-match Test series, starting from August 4. Although the home advantage is in England’s favour, many fans and experts are backing India to clinch the series. After all, the Virat Kohli-led side has been on a roll in the longest format lately.

Barring their eight-wicket defeat to New Zealand in the ICC World Test Championship final, India haven’t done much wrong. They registered a famous Test series in Australia earlier this year before defeating England at home. The Three Lions now have a chance to redeem themselves but their job won’t be easy by any means. Left-arm spinner Jack Leach is certainly aware of this fact.

Leach was in fine form during the India tour this year. He was England’s highest wicket-taker, having scalped 18 wickets in four games. Leach has gained a lot of confidence from that series as he aims to shine in the upcoming fixtures as well.

I enjoy bowling spin in England: Jack Leach

“The belief that I can bowl at these guys and do well. If the wicket is better it is just adapting your skill slightly. I enjoy bowling spin in England. The wickets generally are quite dry and there is definitely a role to play. Playing against India, who are such a strong side, in a five Test-match series, will tell us a lot about where we’re at,” Leach was quoted as saying by The Guardian.

The left-arm spinner has had a decent run in Englandcolours so far. However, he’s determined to become a permanent player of the playing XI with Ashes 2021-21 being months away.

“I guess I’m still trying to work my way into the team on a consistent basis. That’s my main thought: making sure my game is in a good place so I can be in the team and performing consistently,” he added.

Meanwhile, England’s last assignment in red-ball cricket was a two-match home Test series against England in June. The Kiwis walked away with the 1-0 triumph in the series and the hosts would be determined to put up a better show.
