Temba Bavuma ton helps South Africa seal series vs England

South Africa defeated England in the second of the three-match ODI series on Sunday (January 29). It was a record chase from the Proteas side with skipper Temba Bavuma leading from the front.

It was veteran David Miller who took the onus on himself in the death overs when things got extremely close in a high-scoring encounter. With this win, South Africa have sealed the series with one match to go. They will have to win the last game as well to keep their World Cup qualification hopes alive.

As far as the match is concerned, after being put in to bat first, England posted a mammoth total of 342/7 in their 50 overs. Skipper Jos Buttler was again their main batter, scoring an unbeaten 94 off 82 deliveries. He was well-supported by Harry Brook who scored a sublime 80 off 75 deliveries while Moeen Ali provided an excellent finishing touch smashing a half century. For South Africa, Anrich Nortje, Aiden Markram and Keshav Maharaj shared 4 wickets amongst themselves.

In South Africa’s chase, skipper Temba Bavuma replicated his counterpart’s performance, but in a much better way. He registered a brilliant century, compiling 109 runs in 102 deliveries to give the Proteas the perfect platform to capitalise. Also, David Miller and Aiden Markram provided the much needed support by scoring 58* and 49 repectively. Marco Jansen too played a crucial role remaining unbeaten on 32 to seal the series.
