Teams with the most 200+ scores in T20I history
Most teams follow the mantra of going hard from the first ball in T20Is to accumulate as many runs as possible as no score seems to be secure these days. Bowlers have little to no respite in the shortest format of the game as the batters come with a preset mindset of hitting the ball out of the park. But some teams do it better than most as we take a look at teams with the most 200+ scores in T20I history.
3. Australia – 14 times
It’s hard to find a record in world cricket that does not involve the Australian team. The current T20 World champions have breached the 200-run mark on 14 occasions, and there have been some memorable ones too. Their highest T20I score came against old rivals England in 2013 when they posted a mammoth total of 248/6 in 20 overs on the back of a mindboggling 156 of63 balls by Aaron Finch. Australia won the game by 39 runs. Another memorable one came against the Kiwis in 2018 when the Aussies chased down the Blackcaps’ score of 243 with seven balls to spare, the highest run chase in T20Is to date.
2. South Africa – 15 times
The Proteas have managed 15 totals of 200 or more in T20I cricket. The Rainbow nation’s most prominent score of 200+ came in the opening game of the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007. The West Indies team set a stiff target of 205 for the South Africans thanks to a belligerent century by the ‘Universe Boss’ Chris Gayle, who finished with 117 runs in 57 balls. The Proteas were unflustered by the target and completed a historic run chase on the back of heroics from Herschelle Gibbs (90 of 55) and Justin Kemp (46 of 22).
- India- 20 times
The Indian team is renowned for their batting prowess, and it’s no surprise that they are on top of this list with 20 scores of 200 or more. After the success in the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in 2007, the Men in Blue have gone from strength to strength in the shortest format of the game. Featuring some of the biggest heavy-weight batters in the game, the Indian team on their day can amass mind-bending tallies with relative ease. The Indian team recorded their highest total and 5th highest overall in T20I history when they posted a massive 260/5 against Sri Lanka in 2017. The innings saw some delightful shots by skipper Rohit Sharma who scored a majestic 118 of 43 balls.
