Tamim Iqbal slams BCB for speculating his T20I future
One of Bangladesh’s most prominent cricketers, Tamim Iqbal has lamented Bangladesh Cricket Board for their lack of communication in regard decisions on his playing career.
Iqbal, who is the highest run-getter for Bangladesh across all formats with 14508 International runs to his name, has not featured in the T20I side since March 2020. The Southpaw has blamed the BCB for not giving him a chance to speak regarding the decisions on his T20I career.
“Nobody gives me a chance to explain my plan regarding my T20s. Either you [media] say it or someone else tells it [regarding my T20’s future] and let it move like this because I am not given any chance [by the board] to tell anything. I play for so long that at least I deserve it, what I feel or think they should hear it from me,” Tamim revealed to reporters during a private function in Dhaka on Sunday.
The flamboyant opener also criticized the media for their speculations regarding his playing career. “But either you [media] give some kind of notion or someone (board) else tells something. And as they say something I don’t have anything to say,” Iqbal added.
BCB Chairman Jalal Yunus has denied Tamim Iqbal’s claims
Jalal Yunus squashed Tamim’s claims of a rift between the board and the player and said they had a meeting with the senior player regarding the matter. “Tamim Iqbal is one of the senior players on our side and he understands his position better than anyone else. You all know we had a meeting with him regarding this. He had told you [media] exclusively about his plan and now what we have to say,” Jalal told reporters at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.
“After completing the six months, he will officially tell you about his decision and you will know through him about his plan and I can’t say anything about it,” The BCB chairman added.
Tamim was part of the Bangladesh Test team in their recently concluded home Test series against Sri Lanka. He was dismissed for a duck in both innings of the 2nd Test.
