T20 World Cup – Top wicket-takers of every World Cup edition
T20 World Cup has begun in Oman with eight teams fighting for their progress in the next stage of the tournament where they will join the top eight teams. The current edition of the World Cup is the first such in the shortest format after 2016. Going down memory lane, here are all the top wicket-takers from each edition of the T20 World Cup:-
2007 – Umar Gul
The Pakistan speedster was on a roll in the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup. Gul delivered one sensational spell after another as Pakistan advanced to the final. Overall, he scalped 13 wickets in seven games with his economy rate being below 6.
2009 – Umar Gul
Gul replicated his heroics in the 2009 edition as well. The pacer often choked the scoring rate with his tight bowling and his knack of taking regular wickets made him an even greater asset. Like the previous edition, he scalped 13 wickets in seven outings. However, the difference was Pakistan lifted the title this time.
2010 – Dirk Nannes
The left-arm pacer breathed fire with the ball in the 2010 edition as Australia enjoyed a sensational campaign. Having represented the Netherlands in the 2009 edition, Nannes moved to Australia and made a mark in the global event. He scalped 14 wickets in seven games as the Aussies advanced to the final clash.
2012 – Ajantha Mendis
The mystery spinner from Sri Lanka was once a force to reckon with in white-ball cricket. His deliveries bamboozled many batters and took the national team to victories. Mendis was at his prime in the 2012 T20 World Cup as well. He took 15 wickets in six games as Sri Lanka went to the final clash.
2014 – Imran Tahir
Although South Africa doesn’t have a great record in ICC events, leg-spinner Imran Tahir impressed one and all in the 2014 T20 World Cup. The Proteas star scalped 12 wickets in five games as South Africa qualified for the semi-finals.
2016 – Mohammad Nabi
The 2016 edition of the global event saw Mohammad Nabi troubling batters with his off-spins. The Afghanistan star often operated in the middle overs and applied brakes on the scoring rate. He also picked up regular wickets. Overall, Nabi scalped 12 wickets in seven outings.
