T20 World Cup 2022: Bangladesh announce 15-member squad
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced a strong 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022, and Shakib Al Hasan is set to lead the team on the global stage. The one name missing from the squad was Mahmudullah. The all-rounder, who has been struggling to get in form, could not make the cut for the global event.
On the other hand, big names like that of Litton Das, Nurul Hasan, and Najmul Hossain Shanto among others, who are frequently seen in the red-ball game, have made it to the roster. Mahedi Hasan, who was a part of the team in the recently concluded Asia Cup, was also dropped alongside Parvez Hossain Emon, Anamul Haque, and Mohammad Naim.
Bangladesh’s recent campaign at the Asia Cup 2022 saw the team losing both their group stage games, which led to their heartbreaking exit from the tournament early. After losing the group stage games against Afghanistan and Sri Lanka, Bangladesh players could not find themselves a place in the Super Four and had to make their return back home.
After facing an exit in last year’s World Cup, and the recently concluded Asia Cup 2022, the upcoming World Cup in Australia will be an opportunity for Bangladesh to prove themselves. Bangladesh begin their World Cup campaign on October 24, when they play their opening game of the tournament.
The same group will be travelling to New Zealand for the tri-series which is set to be played against the hosts and Pakistan starting October 7. The tri-series has six games scheduled, excluding the finale which will take place on the 14th of October, Friday. All the teams will then start preparing for the T20 World Cup, and play their scheduled warm-up games.
