T20 World Cup 2021: Australia’s probable playing XI
The most important tournament in the T20I format of the game will be played in October and November this year. The deserts of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will host the T20 World Cup 2021. The Aussies have never won the T20 World Cup title before and will be vying to get their hands on the trophy this time around. On that note, let us take a look at the predicted playing XI for the Australian side for the T20 World Cup.
Openers: Aaron Finch and David Warner
Skipper Aaron Finch and batting dynamite David Warner will open the batting for the kangaroos in the T20 World Cup this year. Finch is the leading run-scorer for Australia in T20Is and has plundered 2473 runs in 76 matches at an excellent average of 37.46 and a whopping strike rate of 150.24.
David Warner has raked in the runs in the T20I format of the game. The 34-year-old has amassed 2265 runs in T20I cricket and has scored his runs at an average of 31.45. If these two formidable batsmen get going, there will be a lot of problems for the opposition.
Middle Order and wicketkeeper: Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell, Josh Inglis
Steve Smith is slated to come in at No.3 for the Australian side. The batting maestro has scored 794 runs for the Australian side in T20Is and has scored his runs at an average of 27.37, and a strike rate of close to 130.
The explosive Glenn Maxwell will walk in at No.4. The right-hander showcased his ability in the first half of the 2021 edition of the IPL and scored 223 runs in 6 innings at an average of 37.17, and a strike rate of 144.81. Maxwell can clear any fence and can pulverize the opposition when he gets going.
Josh Inglis is likely to make his debut for Australia in the marquee event, and will also don the wicketkeeping gloves. Inglis is the highest run-scorer in the T20 Blast this year and has plundered 531 runs in 14 innings at an average of 48.27 and a stunning strike rate of 175.82.
All Rounders: Marcus Stoinis and Mitchell Marsh
The two all-rounders who will take the field for the Australian side are Marcus Stoinis and Mitchell Marsh. Stoinis can hit the ball a long way and can also scalp crucial wickets with the ball.
Mitchell Marsh, too, is a handy all-rounder. Marsh proved his worth in the T20I series between Australia and Bangladesh that took place last month. He emerged as the leading run-scorer in the series and amassed 156 runs on the slow and low wickets in Bangladesh.
Bowlers: Adam Zampa, Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Ashton Agar
The Australian side is likely to play two spinners in the T20 World Cup. And, the two are Adam Zampa and Ashton Agar. Zampa is the highest wicket-taker for Australia in T20I cricket and has picked up 52 wickets at an average of 23.42. Agar is the 5th highest wicket-taker for the kangaroos and has scalped 42 wickets. These two men will play a key role for the Aussies.
The two pacers who will take the field are Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins. Starc is known for his pace and accuracy, and his ability to bowl yorkers with precision. The left-arm seamer is also the second-highest wicket-taker for Australia in T20Is and has taken 51 wickets in 41 matches.
Pat Cummins is another bowler who can stem the flow of runs and also scalp quick wickets. The right arm seamer has played 30 T20Is for Australia and has picked up 37 wickets. He will be the new ball bowling partner for Mitchell Starc.
