T20 WC 2022: Five Ireland players to watch out for
Ireland has succeeded in making it to the Super 12 of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. They consolidated their berth in the main round following an outstanding nine-wicket victory over the two-time champions West Indies in their final group fixture on Friday, October 21. The Irish team will now compete in Group 1 along with the likes of Afghanistan, England, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, and, the title-holders Australia.
Without further ado, here are the five players to watch out for from the Irish unit.
- Paul Stirling:
Paul Stirling might not have made much of an impact in the first two group games, but he was the pioneer of the Irish victory and their passage to Super 12 with a blistering 66 runs off 48 balls against the West Indies at an outstanding strike rate of 137.5. Stirling has the potential to play game-changing knocks with his amazing power hitting.
- Curtis Campher:
Curtis Campher is yet another impact player for Ireland who can leave the opposition shell-shocked with his whirlwind innings. Campher has been one of the consistent performers and scored a match-winning 32-ball 72 against Scotland. Curtis also contributed with the ball in hand taking 2/9 and was adjudged the Player of the Match for his all-round contributions in the game.
- Gareth Delany:
Gareth Delany can be one of the key strike bowlers for Ireland in the upcoming Super 12 fixtures. He stunned the two-time winners West Indies with a match-winning three-wicket haul in their final group encounter. Delany finished with figures of 3/16 from his four overs at an economy rate of four.
- Josh Little:
Josh Little is yet another impact player for Ireland in the shortest format and has the ability to keep the batters guessing with his spells. While he was less effective against Scotland and the Windies, he starred in the opening group fixture against Zimbabwe. His amazing figures of 3/24 applied brakes on Zimbabwe’s batting restricting them to 174/7.
- George Dockrell:
George Dockrell might not have scored a half-century in the group stages, but he did make some important contributions in the first two games against Zimbabwe and Scotland, scoring a 20-ball 24 and an unbeaten 39 runs off 27 deliveries. Dockrell can be a very handy batter in the middle order and can score brisk runs towards the backend of the innings.
