T20 WC 2021: Five cricketers who disappointed the most
The league stage of the T20 World Cup 2021 is done and dusted! It has indeed been a fascinating tournament as several games have gone down to wires. Also, some players and teams have performed out of the blue, making their mark in the gala competition. However, the other side of the coin is that there have been some disappointments as well.
With the tournament taking place in challenging tracks of UAE, many batters failed to showcase application and suffered regular failures. There were also several bowlers who couldn’t rise to the expectations and failed to take wickets. Failure of prominent cricketers cost their teams as well.
Meanwhile, let’s look at 5 Players who disappointed from knocked out teams
5) Andre Russell
Matches – 5, Runs – 25, Wickets -3, Economy Rate – 9.22
Arguably the most destructive all-rounder at the moment, Andre Russell is nothing short of a captain’s delight in this format of the game. Hence, expectations were sky-high from him ahead of the competition. However, the dasher was no way near his best and suffered regular failures. While he failed to make his bat talk, the pacer couldn’t do much with the ball either.
4) Chris Gayle
Matches – 5, Runs – 45, Average -9.00, Strike Rate – 91.83
Russell’s West Indies teammate Chris Gayle also features in this unfortunate list. Hailed as the Universe Boss, the southpaw couldn’t showcase his brilliance on turning tracks of UAE. He was even slotted to the opening slot. However, it didn’t work for him either. As a result, West Indies lost four of their five league-stage games.
3) Soumya Sarkar
Matches – 4, Runs – 27, Average -6.75, Strike Rate – 100
It was a tournament to forget for Bangladesh as they lost all their five games in the Super 12 stage. Soumya Sarkar’s dismal show hurt the Bangla Tigers big time as the southpaw, who has played a lot of cricket in these conditions, failed regularly. The swashbuckler scored mere 27 runs in the four games he played. Owing to the same, Sarkar even got dropped from the playing XI.
2) Varun Chakravarthy
Matches – 3, Wickets – 0, Economy Rate – 6.45
Varun Chakravarthy was picked ahead of Ravichandran Ashwin and Rahul Chahar in India’s playing XI for the first two games. However, the mystery spinner couldn’t live up to the expectations and got dropped from the side for a couple of matches. Although he didn’t concede a lot of runs, his inability to take wickets hurt the Men in Blue.
1) Quinton de Kock
Matches – 4, Runs – 69, Average – 17.25, Strike Rate – 107.81
Quinton de Kock’s failure with the bat is arguably the biggest reason why South Africa don’t find themselves in the final four. The southpaw failed to tackle the new ball precisely and got out early in most games. His campaign was also dented by an infamous episode that saw him pulling out of the playing XI. Although he was drafted back in the side, his bat remained silent.
