Surrey sign Sai Sudharsan for final three Championship matches
Surrey have signed youngster Sai Sudharsan, who has been exceptional in the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League and the Tamil Nadu Premier League. Notably, the 21-year-old has signed for the final three games of the Championship and will have a vital role in the playing XI, as some of the star Surrey players are currently unavailable for selection.
Notably, Tom Latham is currently part of the England’s County club with Will Jacks and Sam Curran. On the other hand, Ollie Pope is out injured, and the side needs some stability; hence, the decision to bring Sai into the setup was finalised. Interestingly, the Chennai-born cricketer has played only eight first-class games, scoring 598 runs. With an average of 42.71, he has shown his calibre in the longest format of the game but needs to brush himself up in foreign conditions.
Meanwhile, Alec Stewart has expressed his delight with the arrival of Sudharsan as he mentioned that the youngster will add to Surrey’s batting strength, and the team is ready to welcome him in the scheme of things.
“With the busy schedule of international and domestic cricket around the world, I’m pleased to add Sai Sudharsan to our available squad of players. Sai has come highly recommended to me by people I hugely respect, including a couple of the greats of the Indian game, who have seen and worked closely with him. Sai will add to the batting options for the final three games of the season, and we look forward to welcoming him to the dressing room,” Stewart was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
Notably, Sudharsan will be available for Surrey’s upcoming clash against Worcestershire. They are currently at the top of Division I, with Essex being at number two. Hence, the goal will be to keep up with the momentum and get the job done in the upcoming three matches to bag the prestigious trophy.
