Comilla Victorians, the two-time champions of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) have roped in Faf du Plessis, Moeen Ali and Sunil Narine for the upcoming edition of the T20 tournament. The Victorians, owned by Lotus Group, is set to make a comeback in the championship after not participating in the previous edition two years ago.
Du Plessis and Moeen are fresh from playing in the Abu Dhabi T10 League at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium. Narine last played for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the second leg of the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL). Nafisa Kamal, the managing director of Comilla, confirmed that her team has roped in Du Plessis, Narine and Moeen for the next BPL season.
“BCB has said this is a month-long BPL. There will be six teams. Three foreign players can be taken. We are working accordingly. We have signed all three. We have confirmed Sunil Narine, Faf du Plessis and Moeen Ali,” Nafisa was quoted as saying to the media on Saturday, CricFrenzy reported.
The Victorians won the title for the first time back in 2015-16, beating Barishal Bulls by three wickets at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. In the 2018-19 edition, they became champions for the second time, getting past Rangpur Riders by 57 runs in the final.
BPL clashing with PSL
The BPL is scheduled to get underway on January 20 and is likely to continue for around a month until February 20. However, it’s clashing with the Pakistan Super League (PSL), which is set to start on January 27. Nevertheless, Sheikh Sohel, BPL governing council member, didn’t seem concerned with the PSL.
He also mentioned that the BPL governing council is trying its best to host the players’ draft this month itself. “We are not worried about the PSL and we are expecting to host the players draft of this month but the only thing that we are worried about is the corona situation,” Sohel said.
Meanwhile, the BPL has finalised six teams for the upcoming BPL edition. Sources in the BCB put forth the development on Sunday, December 12. Due to the one-year contract, teams like Khulna Tigers, Rangpur Riders and Dhaka Dynamites have pulled out of the tournament.
