Sunil Gavaskar slams selectors for ignoring Sarfaraz Khan
Batting legend Sunil Gavaskar has slammed the national selectors for snubbing Sarfaraz Khan. The 1983 World Cup winner expressed his displeasure after the youngster did not find a mention in the Indian squad for the upcoming four-match home Test series against Australia starting February 9.
Gutted at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selectors’ selection policies, Gavaskar has angrily taken a dig at them telling them to pick models from a fashion show if they want someone slim.

“At the end of the day, if you are unfit, you are not going to score hundreds. So cricket fitness is most important. I don’t have a problem with you wanting to do the Yo-Yo test or whatever it is, but the Yo-Yo test cannot be the only criterion. You got to make sure that the man is fit for cricket as well. And if the person, whoever it is, is fit for cricket, then I don’t think it should really matter,” Sunil Gavaskar told Sports Today.
“He is not staying off the field when he is scoring hundreds, he is back on the field again. All that tells you that the man is fit for cricket. If you are looking for only slim and trim guys, then you might as well go to a fashion show and pick some models and then give them a bat and ball in their hand and then include them”, Gavaskar added.
“You have cricketers in all shapes and sizes. Don’t go by the size, but go by the runs and the wickets,” he further added.
Sarfaraz Khan was one of the players who was a part of India’s U19 World Cup squad in 2016. While his batchmates Rishabh Pant and Ishan Kishan have already established themselves as international cricketers, luck has not been that kind to Khan.
Despite the Mumbaikar toiling hard in the domestic arena, he has not yet been in the selectors’ scheme of things for making the cut to the national team. The 25-year-old recently registered his 13th FC ton scoring 125 against Delhi in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2022/23 fixture
