Sunil Gavaskar not happy with Siraj for injuring Bavuma with a needless throw
Mohammed Siraj hurled the ball back at Temba Bavuma on Day 5 of the 1st Test match between India and South Africa. The incident took place in the 62nd over of the South African second innings.
Siraj bowled a good length delivery and Bavuma played a defensive shot. When the ball came back to Siraj, the pacer took it and threw the ball at Bavuma. It struck Bavuma on the foot, and the South African was in considerable pain.
And, former Indian cricketing great Sunil Gavaskar is not happy with Siraj’s conduct. Gavaskar said that there was no attempt made by the batter to take a run, and Siraj got carried away.
“There was no attempt to take the run. You are a little bit aggressive; you’ve gotten a bit carried away,” said Sunil Gavaskar in a chat on Star Sports.
Mohammed Siraj should be spoken to: Sunil Gavaskar
Sunil Gavaskar also added that Bavuma had not intended to even take a run, and there was no need for Siraj to throw the ball back at the batter. Gavaskar concluded by stating that someone needs to go and speak to Siraj about his on-field aggression.
“But if there was an attempt to run, it would have been understandable. He’s there. He didn’t take the run. There was no need, absolutely no need for that. Siraj should be spoken to,” concluded Gavaskar.
India hammered South Africa by a margin of 113 runs in the first rubber to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match Test series. The 2nd Test between these two outfits will start on 3rd January 2022, and will be played at The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
