The 2021 edition of the T20 World Cup will be played in the months of October and November this year in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). And, all the teams will be vying to get hold of the coveted trophy when they take the field in the deserts of UAE.

The Indian cricket team is considered as one of the favourites to lift the T20 World Cup title this year. And, former Indian batting legend Sunil Gavaskar picked his Indian squad for the all-important tournament.

Gavaskar left out veteran left-hander Shikhar Dhawan from the squad and stated that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will open the batting. Gavaskar then picked three Mumbai Indians’ players in his squad. While Suryakumar Yadav will occupy the No.3 slot according to Gavaskar, the Pandya brothers, Hardik and Krunal will occupy the middle order. In fact, Gavaskar also stated why Krunal Pandya should feature in the Indian side.

“He’s an all-rounder, a very experienced player, has performed very well in the IPL for the past many years so he surely deserves a place. He’s left-handed, which is an advantage as well,” said Gavaskar as announced by SportsTak.

Shreyas Iyer does not find a place in Sunil Gavaskar’s squad

Also, right-hander, Shreyas Iyer was excluded from Sunil Gavaskar’s squad as well. The other two all-rounders who were picked in Gavaskar’s squad were Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar.

Gavaskar also picked 5 pacers in his squad, and they are Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar, and Mohammed Shami. And, the only specialist spinner who made it to Gavaskar’s squad is Yuzvendra Chahal.

India will play their first match of the 2021 edition of the T20 World Cup against arch-rivals Pakistan on 24th October 2021 in Dubai. This match is already eagerly awaited by the fans of both sides.
