Stuart Broad set to retire from Cricket post Oval Test

The legendary England pacer Stuart Broad has decided to call it time on his cricket career post the conclusion of the Ashes 2023 series. Notably, it was on Friday evening that the pacer reached out to his two teammates and stalwarts of the game James Anderson and Joe Root, respectively, and informed them of his decision. Moreover, it was also claimed that Broad was teary-eyed while communicating his retirement decision.

Notably, last week Broad picked his landmark 600th Test wicket at Old Trafford in Manchester. Following that he became the fifth most wicket-taking bowler in the world. Moreover, he is only the second English bowler after his counterpart James Anderson to have taken 600 wickets.

Meanwhile, reflecting on his decision to bid adieu to his career, Broad said that he has been thinking about it for quite some time. Besides, he also added that he loves playing against the arch-rivals Australia. The lanky pacer also believes that this was the best time to arrive at the conclusion of his long career as he considers ‘The Ashes’ as the most cherished event of cricket.

“I’ve been thinking about it for a while, a few weeks. England vs Australia has always been the pinnacle for me – I have loved the battles with Australia that have come my way and the team’s way, I have a love affair with Ashes and I think I wanted my last bat and bowl to be in Ashes cricket,” Broad stated.

“I told Stokesy last night and told the changing room this morning and to be honest, it just felt the right time and I didn’t want friends or Nottinghamshire team-mates to see things that might come out, so I prefer to just say it now, and just give it a good crack for the last Australia innings,” he further added.
