Sri Lanka endured a poor run early in the tournament after being handed a heavy loss by the hands of team India. However, the Chamari Athapaththu-led side managed to get momentum back on their side coming from behind and winning four consecutive matches to guarantee a semis spot.
Moreover, the side also lost the final league encounter to Pakistan who played the former in a dead rubber. The win shook Sri Lanka’s confidence but they eventually displayed true character in the rematch in the semi-final fixture.
Sri Lanka managed to score a competitive total of 122/6 in their 20 overs as they held their nerves till the very end. Pakistan openers Muneeba Ali and Sidra Amin shared a 31-run stand, before the former ran herself out on the first ball of the fourth over.
Furthermore, the side required nine runs to win from the last over, which became three runs off the final ball, and Nida Dar was run out while attempting to take a second run. The Women in Green just fell short by a run as they managed to get 121/6 in response to Lanka’s 122.
