The Sri Lankan cricket team is set to begin their 2020 cricketing calendar with a short tour of India in January. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Sri Lanka Cricket announced the schedule on Wednesday.

Following the news of Zimbabwe’s ICC suspension, the BCCI invited Sri Lanka for a three-match T20I series. Sri Lankan cricket has confirmed their participation. The first T20I will be played on January 5 at Guwahati, followed by games in Indore (Jan 7) and Pune (Jan 10).

Both teams have faced off in T20I cricket on 16 occasions, the first one dating back to 2009 where India won by 3 wickets at Colombo. India have dominated their island neighbours, winning 11 matches, Sri Lanka have won five.

The Men in Blue will then go on to play three ODIs against Australia later in the month. The first ODI will be played on January 14 at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. It will be followed by ODIs in Rajkot (Jan 17) and Bengaluru (Jan 19).
