Sri Lanka set to tour Bangladesh for two Tests in May 2022
Sri Lanka will be touring Bangladesh for a two-match Test series in the month of May 2022. The two games will be a part of the ICC World Test Championship series for the period of 2021-23. While Sri Lanka stands at No. 5 spot in the WTC points table, Bangladesh is placed at number 8.
The visitors will reach Bangladesh on May 8, and three days after landing, they will be playing two practice games in Chattogram at the MA Aziz Stadium.
According to Cricbuzz, the first test will be played at the same locality- Chattogram, at the Zahur Ahmed Choudhary Cricket Stadium between May 15 and May 19. The second place will take place in Dhaka at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium between May 23 and May 27.
Bangladesh defeated South Africa in the three-match ODI series and will carry the equilibrium into their ongoing Test series against them. On the other hand, Sri Lanka was defeated by India as they lost both Tests against them.
Sri Lanka have the upper hand against Bangladesh in Test history
Sri Lanka’s points have come from the series against West Indies as they won the series 2-0 at home. The upcoming series was originally scheduled in October-November 2021, but had to be delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Sri Lanka last visited Bangladesh in May 2021 for a three-match ODI series.
Bangladesh is currently playing South Africa in a two-match Test series, and the first Test started on March 31 in Durban. Bangladesh toured South Africa for the first time since they got their Test status in the year 2000. They’ll be utilizing this opportunity to seal the game against the Proteas, and the hosts have many players missing due to the Indian Premier League.
Bangladesh also recorded their first-ever Test win against New Zealand in an away match. Dimuth Karunaratne will look to make amends with their previous loss against India, and get back to winning ways in the Test format. Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have faced each other in Tests for 22 times, and they last faced each other in the longest format of the game in April 2021.
