Sri Lanka sends coded signals in game against Afghanistan
After Sri Lanka were asked to bowl first, people from their management sitting in the dugout were seen sending coded signals to the players on the field that has caught the attention of fans and media.
As the race for the semi-finals is wide open, every team is fancying their chances. Asia Cup 2022 winners, Sri Lanka will need to win their remaining fixture against England in order to make their case for the last four stronger but face tight competition from New Zealand, Australia, and England for the same.
Sri Lanka send coded messages to players on field against Afghanistan
Modern-day cricket has changed dramatically and teams use a lot of different strategies and tactics that add a different dimension to the sport. Sri Lanka in their Super 12 fixture against Afghanistan were seen using coded signals so as to pass information to the players in the all-important clash.
With Head Coach Chris Silverwood by the side, Sri Lanka’s team analyst from their dugout was seen sending messages to the players on the ground that read as ‘4’ and ‘W’. While this is not particularly the first time the team is seen involved in sharing coded signals, a similar incident took place back in the Asia Cup 2022 against Bangladesh. Moreover, while fans have questioned the act, the side believes there is nothing wrong in it.
England are one side known to be using real-time coded signals from the dressing room as they did in the T20I series in South Africa in 2020. Now, the Lankan Lions have been following the same steps to use it to their advantage in the marquee tournament down under.
