Sri Lanka Cricket announces schedule for New Zealand tour
The Sri Lanka tour of New Zealand is all set to begin on March 9, 2023, and the Test series hosted by New Zealand will be part of the ICC World Test Championship 2021–23 cycle. It will be followed by a three-match ODI series and three T20I matches as the tour will conclude on April 8, 2023.
The Lankan Lions’ last Test series was back in July 2022, when they faced Pakistan in two matches. The series ended in a 1-1 draw after Pakistan won the first match and Sri Lanka registered a massive 246-run victory against them in the second and final match of the series.
New Zealand also last played a Test series against Pakistan in December 2022-January 2023. The two-match Test series also ended in a stalemate, as both sides put in a valiant effort throughout the series but could not bag a win in either of the games. Before facing Sri Lanka, the Black Caps will be going up against England in a two-match Test series, which is scheduled to begin on February 16.
Both teams lost their recent ODI series against India
Both Sri Lanka and New Zealand have been experiencing a slump in their forms. Interestingly, both the teams will be entering the ODI series after facing a defeat against the Indian team in their last international outing. Sri Lanka faced India for a three-match ODI series back in January, where they were unable to win a single match as the Men in Blue dominated the Islanders.
New Zealand also came up against India in the later stages of January 2023, when they faced defeat in every single match of the ODI series. Both the Black Caps and the Lankan Lions will be looking to switch it up and grab a series win as they go head-to-head in the ODI series in March 2023.
