SRH vs MI Review – Mumbai continue their winning momentum

Mumbai Indians registered their third consecutive win in Indian Premier League 2023 with a 14-run triumph over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 25th match on April 18. Cameron Green’s maiden IPL fifty guided Mumbai to a 192/5 total and then the pacers impressed to bowl out Sunrisers Hyderabad on 178 runs in 19.5 overs.

Aiden Markram won the toss for the Sunrisers and decided to bowl first at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Washington Sundar returned to the playing eleven in place of struggling speedster Umran Malik while Jason Behrendorff replaced Duan Jansen for Mumbai Indians.

Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan gave Mumbai a quick start with the former smashing 28 off 18. Natarajan gave Sunrisers Hyderabad a breakthrough in the fifth over with Rohit’s wicket but Ishan and Green added another meaningful partnership for the second wicket.

Marco Jansen stopped Mumbai’s flying run picking two wickets of Ishan and Suryakumar Yadav in the 12th over. But after some early struggles for big shots, Green produced a sensational knock and proved his worth with his first fifty in IPL. Tilak Varma added a crucial 37 off 17 while Green remained unbeaten at 64* off 40 as Mumbai posted a big total.

While chasing a tough total at home, Sunrisers Hyderabad lost their previous game’s hero Harry Brook in the second over with just 11 runs on the scoreboard. Behrendorff picked Brook’s valuable wicket on his return and further shocked the home fans with Rahul Tripathi’s wicket in the fourth over.

Mayank Agarwal ended his poor run of form as he smashed 48 off 41 with the help of four fours and a six. He and Markram balanced the game with a 46-run stand for the third wicket with the latter scoring 22 off 17.

Heinrich Klaasen added 36 off 16 to add some pressure on Mumbai while Mayank also accelerated his innings to put Hyderabad in a comfortable position to chase the target. But Piyush Chawla dismissed the South African wicketkeeper in the 14th over after getting hit for four consecutive boundaries.

Riley Meredith put Mumbai Indians in the driving seat for the first time with Mayank’s wicket in the next over. Arjun Tendulkar ended the game with Bhuvnwshwar Kumar’s wicket in the last over, which was also his maiden IPL wicket as MI dished SRH out on the penultimate delivery.

Jason Behrendorff: The right-arm pacer conceded 19 runs in his fourth over but bowled a sensational spell in the powerplay overs to give Mumbai Indians early control of the game. He dismissed Harry Brook and Rahul Tripathi while conceding just 18 runs from his first three overs.
