South Africa’s olympic body takes over Cricket South Africa

In a strong move that can cause South Africa to be expelled from international cricket, South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) has taken over the national cricket body. According to the ICC rules, such interference is not allowed and thus the Proteas are likely to be suspended from playing anymore international cricket. A similar course of action has been taken against Zimbabwe previously. The ICC is yet to give their position on this development.

SASCOC took the decision unanimously at a board meeting due to “the many instances of maladministration and malpractice,” at CSA (Cricket South Africa) which “has brought cricket into disrepute.”

The decision now leaves cricket in South Africa in a limbo. They do not have any fixtures scheduled for the coming season. The announcement of domestic and international matches is still pending. Currently, the South African borders are closed because of the coronavirus pandemic and lockdown is still in place. CSA has not revealed any plans for the 2020-21 season apart from appointing a new high-performance management staff earlier.
