South Africa to host the Netherlands for three ODIs later this year
South Africa is all set to host the Netherlands for an ODI series in late November. Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Thursday, October 28 made the announcement about the same. The nation will be hosting the Netherlands for a three-match ODI series.
The series is scheduled to commence on 26 November. All three games will be played at the SuperSport Park in Centurion. Between the years 2007 and 2014, the two nations had locked horns with each other for four ODIs and one T20I. Three of the four One Day International games were played in the World Cups whereas the T20I was a part of the T20 World Cup.
This series will be a part of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League. The Proteas are currently placed at the ninth position whereas the Dutch find themselves at the bottom of the table. The teams will battle it out against each other in a bilateral series for the second time overall and the first time since 2013.
CSA is delighted to welcome the Netherlands team, says Graeme Smith
“CSA is delighted to welcome the Netherlands team to South Africa. This tour will kick-start an incredibly exciting international summer of cricket for the Proteas and CSA. The Netherlands brings an exciting flavor to the world game, and we look forward to an exciting series.
“This series is a culmination of our numerous engagements with our Royal Dutch Cricket Association equivalents. The mutual rapport that we both enjoy has stood the test of time, for which CSA is eternally grateful,” CSA director of cricket Graeme Smith said in a statement.
“We are indeed pleased that our two sides will for the first time in history, be locking horns on South Africa’s soil. This tour is also an affirmation that cricket in the South is back in full flight after the devastating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic,” Pholetsi Moseki, CSA’s acting chief executive officer said.
The Proteas are currently playing in the T20 World Cup 2021. The Temba Bavuma-led side lost their opening fixture to Australia. The side however bounced back stronger against West Indies to get to winning ways. The next assignment for the team is against the Dasun Shanaka-led side. Sri Lanka has had an impressive stint in the tournament so far and will be keen on taking the momentum further in the mega event.
