Sourav Ganguly set to be elected new BCCI President
Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly is set to be elected unopposed as the new President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India according to reports. He will be Cricket Association of Bengal’s nominee for the upcoming AGM and will contest the elections. This will be a logical next step in the career of Ganguly as a cricket administrator, who is already serving as the President of the CAB.
Ganguly captained India for five years, being regarded as one of the greatest leaders in the history of Indian cricket. He also represented the country in over 400 international matches.
There will also be a new chairman of IPL in place. Rajeev Shukla is all set to be replaced at the helm by former Indian batter Brijesh Patel. He was also in contention to become the next President, having the support of the influential N Srinivasan. But once Ganguly entered the fray, he was met with strong opposition from the other state units.
A senior member of a North East unit told the PTI:
“Yes, Brijesh was running for the President’s post with N Srinivasan actively lobbying for him. However, there was stiff resistance against him. We are happy Sourav is the new President.”
Other key positions to be decided as well
Personnel taking over other keys posts in the board are also set to be decided. It is believed that Jay Shah of the Gujarat Cricket Association and son of Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be appointed the new secretary.
