So near yet so far: Five Indian batsmen with most 90s in Test cricket  

In any format of the game, scoring a century is the biggest milestone for a batsman. Every young batter who aims to represent his/her country at the highest level dreams of scoring a century for the nation. However, many times, the batsmen have been dismissed in the 90s making it more painful for them. In this article, we will be listing out 5 Indian batsmen with the most 90s in Test cricket.

5. Virender Sehwag – 5

Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag has fallen in the 90s five times in his Test career. His scores in these innings were 90, 90, 92, 99 and 96. These innings were played in 2004, 2008 and 2010 year. Two of his scores of the 90s came against Australia in the 2008 home series.

4. Sunil Gavaskar – 5

Another Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar also got out in the 90s five times during his stint with the national team in the longest format. These 5 innings occurred between 1978 to 1987 with scores being 97, 90, 90, 91 and 96. Among these, 3 innings were played against the Pakistan team.

3. MS Dhoni – 5

Former Indian captain MS Dhoni was unlucky to miss out on 5 Test centuries in his career as he was dismissed in the 90s in those innings. It includes scores of 92, 92, 98, 90 and 99 which occurred in 2007, 2008, 2010, 2010 and 2012 respectively. Two of these five innings were played in overseas countries at The Oval and Centurion. His last score in the 90s was a 99-run knock played against England in Nagpur Test, 2012 where got dismissed due to a run-out.

2. Sachin Tendulkar -10

The legendary Indian cricketer smashed a record 51 centuries in Test cricket and he also got dismissed in the 90s ten times in the longest format. Four of these ten innings came against England with three of them in the away tours. His scores had a wide range but Sachin never got out on 99 in Test cricket. Nine of these scores came while batting at number 4 while 1 innings was played at number 5.

1. Rahul Dravid – 10

Rahul Dravid also has 10 scores of the 90s to his name in Test cricket. He was not out in one of these innings with an unbeaten score of 91 against Australia in the Sydney Test, 2004. He got out in the 90s two times each against Australia, Sri Lanka and West Indies.
