SL vs IND: Wasim Jaffer predicts winners of ODI and T20I series
With the Indian cricket team taking giant strides in recent years, many fans and experts are intrigued to see how their second-stringed would do in Sri Lanka. Under Shikhar Dhawan’s leadership, the Men in Blue will play three ODIs and as many T20Is in the Island nation, starting on Sunday (July 18). The majority of the players in the squad are young and experienced with many prominent names being in England for a five-match Test series.
Speaking of the series, former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer backed his countrymen to thrash the Lankan Lions in the latter’s den. Notably, players in this Indian team have proven their mettle in arguably the world’s most celebrated T20 competition, the Indian Premier League (IPL). At the same time, there are also some notable names in skipper Shikhar Dhawan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Hardik Pandya. Highlighting the same, Jaffer called the Men in Blue undoubted favourites for this series.
We are blessed with such good talent: Wasim Jaffer
“Even though it is a second-string Indian side and a lot of main players are missing, I would still say the Indian team is the favorite to win both the trophies – the T20I and ODI. We are blessed with such good talent and potential, I would say the Indians are favorites to win both series,” Jaffer said in a video on his YouTube channel.

“It’s a very strong team, there’s no doubt. A lot of these players are ODI regulars: like Shikhar Dhawan, Hardik Pandya, Bhuvi, and Yuzvendra Chahal,” he added.
While there are many exciting prodigies in the squad, Jaffer named Devdutt Padikkal, Prithvi Shaw, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Varun Chakravarthy, and Sanju Samson as the youngsters to watch out for in the series. \
“A lot of exciting players have been selected as well: Prithvi Shaw is back, Devdutt is another exciting talent, Ruturaj Gaikwad has got a chance, Varun Chakravarthy is in this team and Sanju Samson has made his comeback as well,” he added.
Notably, this is likely to be India’s last white-ball assignment before the ICC T20 World Cup later this year. Hence, many youngsters have a great chance to shine in national colours and stake a claim in the squad for the global event. Meanwhile, the first ODI takes place at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
