India have registered a magnificent win in the first ODI of the three-match series against Sri Lanka. The hosts set a target of 263 runs for the Indian team which was achieved in only 36.4 overs. Captain Shikhar Dhawan, debutant Ishan Kishan and opener Prithvi Shaw played fine knocks to held the visitors secure an easy win. Prithvi Shaw was adjudged as the player of the match for his quickfire knock of 43 runs off 24 balls.

6000 – Shikhar Dhawan completed 6000 ODI runs in this match. He took 140 innings to reach the milestone making him the fourth-fastest after Hashim Amla (123), Virat Kohli (136) and Kane Williamson (139).

1 – At the age of 35 years and 225 days, Shikhar Dhawan became the oldest Indian cricketer on ODI captaincy debut. Before him, Mohinder Amarnath made his ODI captaincy debut at the age of 34 Years and 37 days against Pakistan in 1984.
2018 – The last time India played an ODI without Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma was in Asia Cup 2018.
142 – Shikhar Dhawan made his ODI captaincy debut after playing 142 games in the format. Only Anil Kumble (217), and Rohit Sharma (171) played more games before leading India for the first time in ODIs.
2 – Shikhar Dhawan became the fifth Indian player to hit fifty on his ODI captaincy debut. His score of 86 is second-highest in this regard, with Sachin Tendulkar on the first spot with a 110-run knock against Sri Lanka in 1996.
