Sky Sports to pay tribute to Shane Warne during England-New Zealand Test at Lord’s
Former Australian great Shane Warne passed away on March 4 due to a cardiac arrest in Koh Samui, Thailand. He is the second-leading wicket-taker in Test cricketer, having claimed 708 wickets in 145 Tests.
The Victoria-based legend has played an important role in Australia’s World Cup triumph in 1999. After retiring from international cricket, Warne was in his stint with Sky Sports in a joint association. MCC Club has decided to pay tribute to the legend by renaming the JP Morgan media center after him.
A couple of former players and Warne’s colleagues during his services as a commentator have decided to pay him tribute in a documentary titled ‘Bowled Shane’, which will be released in two parts. This movie will narrate the story of the Ashes series played in 2005 and 2006-07.
No words can capture his contribution to the game of cricket: MCC Director
Bryan Henderson, director of cricket at Sky Sports, talked about his friendship with Warne and also lauded his great career. “On the pitch, he was simply the greatest, while off it, he was a wonderful and loyal friend. No words can capture his contribution to the game, but his magic on the field as well as in the commentary box and in life itself will never be forgotten.
“We hope our tributes to him during this Test will remind those who witnessed him in the action of his greatness as well as hopefully introduce young cricket fans to a cricketing legend,” he said.
To note, the Sky Sports broadcast will feature the former greats, including the likes of former Australian captain Mark Taylor, Ex-English skipper Naseer Hussain, and Michael Atherton. They will be joined by Mel Jones, Ian Ward, Simon Doull, and Eoin Morgan to discuss the impact of Shane Warne on the game of cricket.
MCC’s chief executive and secretary, Guy Lavender has also praised the Warne’s passion for the game and contributions on field. “Shane Warne was a man who entertained us on the field and was passionate about improving the sport of it. We are hugely supportive of Sky’s commemoration of Shane which I am sure will be a fitting tribute to a true legend of the game.”
