Simon Doull backs Dinesh Karthik to make it to India’s T20 World Cup squad
Former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull has expressed his views on Dinesh Karthik and has said that he wishes to see the 36-year-old make a comeback for India. The last time Karthik represented the Indian side was back in the year 2019, during the men’s ODI World Cup. Since then, he wasn’t considered, and thus went on to take the microphone to start his commentary stint.
Ahead of IPL 2022, he was picked by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for a price of INR 5.50 crore. He has been at his best since the first game, and has been the perfect finisher that the team has been looking out for. Now that he has grabbed all the attention, he revealed that he aspires to make a comeback to the Indian side and play for the team in the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Coming back to Doull, he contemplated the options Team India has and felt that Karthik could go to Australia as a backup batter. “I was thinking about DK going to Australia later on this year. India have got Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul as the backup keeper. You can’t take DK! Maybe he now goes into the team as a backup batter. He can bat at number six or seven… even number five. He is playing so well and with so much confidence at the moment,” Doull told Star Sports post RCB’s game against Delhi Capitals.
Karthik has got skills to play when team is in trouble, says Doull
“Rahul Tewatia will have a few words about that (laughs). But Karthik is right up there. He’s got all the skills to play when his team is in trouble, and find boundaries as well. I think that’s the difference between some of the other batters and DK at present,” he further added.
In the six games that RCB have played so far, Karthik has come out with the bat in all the games and has remained unbeaten on five occasions. His highest score of this season came against Delhi Capitals in a recent encounter, where he smashed 66*(34) to take the team’s score to 189/5.
